CUT COPY 2010 BIO

At a time where the marriage between dance and rock is neighboring inevitable, Cut Copy walk the line as pioneers of the new sound movement. Their 2008 sophomore set, In Ghost Colours, delivered both timelessness and forward thinking, haunted with machines of the past and sounds of the future. It was embraced by both audiences and critics worldwide, landing at the #1 position in their native Australia, receiving almost unanimous global praise and a spot on many key “Best Albums of the Decade” roundups. The key songs off that record, including “Hearts On Fire,” “Lights and Music,” and “Feel The Love” were ubiquitous on the internet and as the soundtrack to the modern urban experience, and still are topping charts two years after its release.

In addition, the band sold out an endless string of shows across the globe, with their biggest markets constantly changing as the year went on. From Melbourne to Mexico City to Lisbon to Jakarta, they played to thousands of excited fans a night, bringing an irresistible multimedia party wherever they went.

The band are currently ensconced in their Melbourne studio working on the follow-up to In Ghost Colours, which should be wrapped shortly. Never ones content to stand still, it is as much a progression of sound as “In Ghost Colours” was from their debut “Bright Like Neon Love.” They will be doing key festivals across the globe this summer, and can’t wait to share their new music and old favorites with their fans.

The musical lovechild of Melbournite Dan Whitford, Cut Copy was originally a solo project for Whitford to exercise his love of sampling and instrumental hip-hop. Not too long after the project’s conception, Whitford recruited pals Tim Hoey and Mitchell Scott, traded in the sequencers for soundtracks, and recorded the I Thought of Numbers EP in 2001. Three years later, the posse eventually solidified the Cut Copy sound – scuzzy disco, post-post-punk, electric rock, space pop – on their debut album Bright Like Neon Love. 2008 saw the release of their critically lauded follow up, In Ghost Colours, cementing the Cutters’ dominance and unique sound.
